Basic stances and forms
Note: Due to organisational and regional variations, the instructions for the forms on the following pages are merely a guideline.
Stances
- Ready stance
- Front stance
- Back stance
- Low back stance
- Horse-riding stance
- Side stance
- Duck foot stance
Basic form 1
- Starting from the ready stance, look towards your left.
- Turn your body 90 degrees to your left and perform a low block in front stance.
- Take 1 step forwards and perform a centre punch in front stance.
- Look over your right shoulder.
- Turn your body 180 degrees and perform a low block in front stance.
- Take 1 step forwards and perform a centre punch in front stance.
- Look over your left shoulder, towards the front of the training hall.
- Turn your body 90 degrees to your left and perform a low block in front stance.
- Take 1 forwards and perform a centre punch in front stance (x3), making sure to shout when completing the final punch.
- Look over your left shoulder .
- Turn your body 270 degrees and perform a low block in front stance.
- Repeat steps 3-5.
- Return to the ready stance.
Basic form 2
- Starting for the ready stance, look over your left shoulder.
- Turn your body 90 degrees and perform a low block in front stance.
- Take 1 step forwards and perform a high punch in front stance.
- Look over your right shoulder.
- Turn your body 180 degrees and perform a low block in front stance.
- Repeat step 3.
- Look over your left shoulder, towards the front of the training hall.
- Repeat step 2.
- Take 1 step forwards and perform a high block in front stance (x3), making to shout when completing the final block.
- Look over your left shoulder.
- Turn your body 270 degrees and perform a low block in front stance.
- Repeat steps 3-5.
- Return to the ready stance.
Basic form 3
- Starting from the ready stance, look over your left shoulder.
- Remaining in your current position in the training hall, transfer your weight into a back stance and a perform an inside-to-outside block.
- Take 1 step forwards and perform a centre punch in front stance.
- Look over your right shoulder.
- Turn your body 90 degrees and perform an inside-to-outside block in back stance.
- Take 1 step forwards and perform a centre punch in front stance.
- Look over your left shoulder, towards the front of the training hall.
- Turn your body 90 degrees and perform a low block in front stance.
- Take 1 step forwards and perform a side centre punch in horse-riding stance (x3), making sure to shout while performing the final punch.
- Look over your left shoulder.
- Turn your body 90 degrees and repeat steps 2-9.
- Look over your left shoulder.
- Repeat steps 2-6.
- Return to the ready stance.
